These models are inspired by the first DS concept timepieces that Certina produced in 1960. They combine a distinctive design and sophisticated retro details with an innovative automatic movement and a power reserve of up to 80 hours.

PVD is the abbreviation for physical vapour deposition and refers to an extremely modern coating method by means of which a material, for instance gold, can be transferred to your choice of steel or titanium workpiece in vapour form. The result is as fine as it is durable: PVD is resistant, corrosion-resistant and very hard.

316L stainless steel

The 316L stainless steel, which Certina uses for cases, bracelets and clasps for instance, is extremely resistant, corrosion-resistant and hygienic. It contains only a very small proportion of nickel, which is not emitted when worn and therefore does not trigger any nickel allergies.

Antireflection treatment on one side

It is possible to enhance the quality of a sapphire crystal to an even greater extent by providing it with an anti-reflective coating on one or both sides. The Certina brand is becoming increasingly focussed on equipping its timepieces with an extremely high-quality anti-reflective coating on both sides, whereby several layers of this coating on both sides of the crystal ensure that it is possible to see through the timepieces in an optimum manner.

Sapphire crystal

Sapphire watch crystal is made of aluminium oxide power (Al2O3) heated to over 2000 °C. The resultant sapphire nugget is cut with great precision into fine slices, trimmed and polished. Sapphire is extremely scratch-resistant, shock-resistant and is very transparent. This is why sapphire crystal is an essential element in the DS Concept and is therefore used by Certina in all of its models to protect the dials.

Water resistance

Up to a pressure of 10 bar (100 m)

This information about the water resistance states the specified overpressure and diving depth to which a watch can be subjected and still remain in working order. As a general rule, we do not recommend wearing watches that are water-resistant to less than 10 bar (100 m) when swimming or diving. All Certina timepieces can withstand a pressure of at least 10 bar (100 m) stand - some of our watches can even withstand considerably higher pressures!

80-hr power reserve

The power reserve provides you with information about how long a mechanical timepiece can run for without being wound. Most timepieces have a power reserve of around 38 to 42 hours. Certina's innovative Powermatic 80 automatic calibre offers a power reserve of up to 80 hours - almost double as long as comparable models.

Nivachron

An innovative new titanium-based alloy that is used for balance springs. This revolutionary material was developed in collaboration with the Swatch Group and is used in selected brands. Nivachron springs are highly resistant to magnetic fields, shock, ageing and temperature fluctuations, lending them extremely high mechanical precision and making them remarkably reliable in everyday use.

Material

Milanese mesh

Mesh straps and Milanese bracelets are made of tiny metal elements that are woven together in a fine knit. Watchmakers first started using this traditional manufacturing technique many decades ago. Mesh straps are extremely robust yet beautifully elegant at the same time. They hug the wrist comfortably, feeling smooth against the skin.

Quick-release system

Various Certina models are fitted with a sophisticated quick-change mechanism that enables the wearer to remove the strap easily and swap it for another one. The spring pins in these straps have minute levers that can be pushed down and unlocked with ease.
