Certina is delighted to now be sharing its passion for the up-and-coming sport of padel with one of the world's greatest players: Spain's Marta Ortega caused a sensation back in 2019 when she became the youngest world number one; she is currently 6th in the international rankings. The Swiss watchmaker, which has been committed to this dynamic discipline across the globe since 2022, has welcomed this exceptional player into Certina's international brand family as the newest sports ambassador.

Despite Padel being a comparatively young sporting discipline, Martita, as the 26-year-old Marta Ortega is known, has been firmly established as one of the sport's biggest names for years now. After becoming the youngest player to be ranked No. 1 in the world in 2019, she went on to win the world title with the Spanish national padel team in 2021 and 2022. As of August 2023, Marta has a total of 15 titles to her name, and this year she made history once again: her doubles partner Gemma Triay, and she became the first women's duo ever to win a Premier Padel tournament. The racket sport can always be relied on to bring fast-paced action to the court. And this is just what is needed for the young Spaniard, for whom challenges only spur her on to achieve greatness – both on and off the court. In 2021 Marta graduated from medical school, immediately earning her a second nickname: La Doctora (The Doctor).

Certina CEO Marc Aellen is delighted to welcome the Spaniard as an ambassador. “Marta is not only a sensational player, she also has an extremely likable and outgoing personality,” he emphasizes. “We love the pace and precision, the team spirit and the versatility of padel. Marta is the perfect embodiment of these values and we are delighted to welcome her into our international brand family!”

Marta, too, is happy with the new partnership. “I’m particularly proud to count on such a renowned partner as Certina to support me and to be its new ambassador. We’ve got some great projects lined up over the next few months and I’m really looking forward to it.”

Padel is an extremely fast-paced, powerful sport. All these things and more are true of the Swiss watchmaking brand as well. Certina has proudly demonstrated a love of sport for decades in the form of its robust, reliable watches. The watchmaker is delighted to have been involved as a partner in a number of national and local events on the Padel calendar from 2022 onwards. In this sport, it all comes down to tactics and skill. The sport is played as a doubles match over a central net. The walls of the court form part of the playing area – meaning that the game involves long, spectacular rallies that are as fun for spectators as they are for players.
