The 316L stainless steel, which Certina uses for cases, bracelets and clasps for instance, is extremely resistant, corrosion-resistant and hygienic. It contains only a very small proportion of nickel, which is not emitted when worn and therefore does not trigger any nickel allergies.

Antireflection treatment on one side

It is possible to enhance the quality of a sapphire crystal to an even greater extent by providing it with an anti-reflective coating on one or both sides. The Certina brand is becoming increasingly focussed on equipping its timepieces with an extremely high-quality anti-reflective coating on both sides, whereby several layers of this coating on both sides of the crystal ensure that it is possible to see through the timepieces in an optimum manner.

Sapphire crystal

Sapphire watch crystal is made of aluminium oxide powder (Al2O3) heated to over 2000 °C. The resultant sapphire nugget is cut with great precision into fine slices, trimmed and polished. Sapphire is extremely scratch-resistant, shock-resistant and is very transparent. This is why sapphire crystal is an essential element in the DS Concept and is therefore used by Certina in all of its models to protect the dials.

Water resistance

Up to a pressure of 10 bar (100 m)

This information about the water resistance states the specified overpressure and diving depth to which a watch can be subjected and still remain in working order. As a general rule, we do not recommend wearing watches that are water-resistant to less than 10 bar (100 m) when swimming or diving. All Certina timepieces can withstand a pressure of at least 10 bar (100 m) stand - some of our watches can even withstand considerably higher pressures!

Super-LumiNova

SLN is the acronym for Super-LumiNova®, a phosphorescent luminescent material. The BG W9 type of SLN, used by Certina, emits the stored light in the form of a bluish glow in the dark. SLN poses no risk to health and is used to coat hands, indices and bezels. Its brightness decreases in the dark after some time, but it is automatically recharged when light strikes it.

The power reserve provides you with information about how long a mechanical timepiece can run for without being wound. Most timepieces have a power reserve of around 38 to 42 hours. Certina's innovative Powermatic 80 automatic calibre offers a power reserve of up to 80 hours - almost double as long as comparable models.

Nivachron™

An innovative new titanium-based alloy that is used for balance springs. This revolutionary material was developed in collaboration with the Swatch Group and is used in selected brands. The Powermatic 80 automatic movement is powered by the natural motion of the wearer's wrist and offers exceptional precision. It has a power reserve of up to 80 hours. This means that if the watch is fully wound and not worn for three days, the time will not need to be reset.

Super-LumiNova®

Super-LumiNova® (SLN) is a luminescent material with phosphorescent properties. In the dark, the SLN type BG W9 used by Certina emits the light stored as a blue shimmer. SLN does not damage your health in any way and is used in coatings on hands, indices and bezels. It progressively loses its phosphorescence in darkness, but automatically regains it under light.
