Silicon has become a key innovation in modern mechanical watchmaking, especially in the balance spring that regulates a movement’s rhythm. Its lightness, anti-magnetic properties, and stability under temperature changes help maintain precise oscillation in everyday conditions. In Certina’s A05 movement (also known as Valjoux), the silicon spring works alongside a 4 Hz frequency and a power reserve of up to 65 hours. This combination limits the disturbances caused by shocks and magnetic exposure, allowing the movement to sustain its accuracy day after day.
