DS Concept
Driving innovation since 1959
The Double Security concept has been synonymous with maximum durability since 1959. It incorporates several design features that make Certina watches exceptionally robust – and still does to this day. These include scratch-resistant sapphire crystal, a reinforced case back and a sophisticated sealing system. Over the years, the DS Concept has been repeatedly refined to reflect the state of the art. As such, the abbreviation DS reassures wearers that the timepiece on their wrist can withstand all the challenges of modern life.
”New DS Concept Extreme Shock Resistance”
A new generation of Double Security
The latest version of the DS Concept is the product of intensive research into the shock resistance of wristwatches. Cutting-edge equipment and extensive testing have been used to develop an ultra-robust design that raises the benchmark yet again. What’s the secret behind the success of the “New DS Concept Extreme Shock Resistance”? The tried-and- tested qualities of the classic DS Concept, combined with three extra features

Maximum resilience for the dial
To prevent the dial from deforming or slipping in the case if knocked, an ultra-thin metal plate has been positioned between the dial and the movement to secure the two elements together for more stability.

A secure hold inside the case
The precise and intricate movement must be protected at all costs. This is why it is screwed down into the case on “New DS Concept Extreme Shock Resistance” models by means of a thin, ring-shaped nut, which provides increased stability, especially in the event of vibrations.

Reinforced and domed crystal
The watch's sapphire crystal provides an exceptional defence against scratches. Now, it has been further reinforced and is even slightly domed on some models, so that any shock waves are distributed more evenly in the event of an impact.
Extreme resistance
Combined, these ultra-robust new features turn an everyday timepiece into an extreme athlete. In fact, the “New DS Concept Extreme Shock Resistance” timepieces can withstand G-forces of such magnitude that even the specially developed test device was pushed to its load limit during testing. In the future, many more Certina watches will benefit from these features – either with all three new characteristics, or just individual elements, depending on the style, size and requirements.
