The latest Certina timepiece truly reflects the spirit of diving. For this very reason, the DS Super PH500M, Special Edition celebrated its premiere with boot Düsseldorf, the largest boating trade fair in the world. The new interpretation of a historic Certina model, was introduced in partnership with the Verband Deutscher Sporttaucher (VDST- Association of German Sport Divers), scoring points with its retro look and state-of-the-art mechanism.
On 23st January 2020, Certina President Adrian Bosshard personally presented the new diver's watch at an exclusive press dinner in Düsseldorf. The original model from 1968 had made a name for itself in various arenas, including Tektite I - the underwater research project. The features of the new edition were agreed upon together with diving professionals from the VDST. It is being launched as a timepiece by divers, for divers – and bears the logo of the renowned association on the case back.
When it comes to design, the latest Certina diver's watch remains true to its roots. Back then, just as it does today, the watch boasted a diameter of 43 mm, a striking rotating bezel and scratch-resistant sapphire crystal. A generous coating of luminous material ensures you can see it clearly, while the screw-down case back and the screw-down crown enable a water resistance of up to 500 metres. The orange dial is likewise inspired by a historic Certina diver's watch, and lends the contemporary new edition its own unique character. The watch is worn on a black rubber strap with a wave-like surface finish and a separate diver extension. In addition, two NATO straps are also available for each watch – members of the VDST can obtain these free of charge.
The DS Super PH500M, Special Edition satisfies the requirements of the ISO 6425 standard which regulates Diver's watches. Moreover, it beats an advanced Powermatic 80 calibre with 80 hours of power reserve. Thanks to its Nivachron™ balance spring, it is impervious to magnetic fields - a decisive advantage in everyday life as well as when diving. The special edition timepiece will be commercially available from May 2020.
