Our partner, Sea Turtle Conservancy (STC), is once again inviting everyone to a very special long-distance race this year: On 16th June 2021, the first round of this year's Tour de Turtles will officially kick off.
This "tour" is an annual online event which the STC uses to give the public exclusive insights into the migration of sea turtles. Satellite technology makes it possible to track the route taken by marked turtles in real time. The Tour de Turtles tracks the entire distance that each competitor travels in the water over several weeks. The "winner" – that is the turtle that has travelled the furthest distance – will be announced on October. We wish all the turtles the very best for their journey. But there is one turtle whose journey we will be following particularly closely: We are sponsoring “Mumu” this year.
The exciting Tour de Turtles has a very serious background. The organisation seeks to raise awareness of the dangers the animals face and to call for greater responsibility for the turtle's habitats. The Florida-based organisation has been protecting sea turtles since 1959, with research programmes, educational campaigns, but also specific aid measures for injured or endangered animals. Certina has been supporting this work since 2017.
