A history of precision and achievement

The new DS-1 Powermatic embodies the practical, self-confident style of the 1960s, that accompanied gifted explorers to outstanding achievement. Its slightly retro look celebrates its long history as an exceptional timepiece, while keeping up with modern times, thanks to a Powermatic movement capable of up to 80 hours of power reserve. A celebratory Himalaya Special Edition is also available, to mark the historical, first successful climb of the Dhaulagiri in 1960.

The superb finishing and attention to detail in the new DS-1 Powermatic 80 is a modern tribute to its long and illustrious history. CERTINA has retained its great qualities – of high resistance, precision and reliability, but built the new DS-1 using the latest production technics and elements, including a Swiss-Made ETA Powermatic 80 movement which can bring up to 80 hours of power reserve.

Inside the classy and beautifully contoured 40mm brushed/polished stainless-steel case, a sober yet modern, rounded anthracite-grey dial with sunray finishing greets the eye, protected by a sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating. Faceted triangular HM hands, indices and central sweep seconds are finished in PVD rose gold, a stylish touch which enhances readability against the grey dial surface. A date window is placed at 3 o’clock and in memory of the 1960s, when the original model stood solidly beside renowned climbers as they journeyed up some of the world’s highest peaks, the DS-1 Powermatic proudly displays the former “double-C” CERTINA logo on the dial, as well as on the tip of its crown. The DS-1 is of course assembled using the well known DS Concept, for great durability, and the watch is water-resistant up to a pressure of 10 bar (100 m). A brown leather strap with a twin push-button butterfly buckle ensures that the DS-1 is both comfortable and secure on the wrist.

In honour of one of those major historical expeditions of its time – the first successful climb of the Dhaulagiri in 1960, supplied with early Certina DS-1 models – two special versions of the DS-1 Powermatic 80 have been created. The new series is produced as an “Himalaya Special Edition”, with a PVD rose gold ring and rectangular indices on its silver-coloured dial, as well as a see-through case back with a commemorative panoramic etching with the mention “Dhaulagiri, 8167m, 1960” and “CERTINA Mechanical Watches since 1888” on its automatic winder. A precious part of history.
