Ole Einar Bjørndalen: Successful and friendly brand ambassador

The most successful biathlete in history has been a brand ambassador for CERTINA since 2011. Norwegian-born Ole Einar Bjørndalen is known for his endurance and precision as well as for his friendly personality and natural charm. These qualities make him an ideal representative for CERTINA, one of the leading watch brands in Scandinavia.

Ole Einar Bjørndalen was born January 27, 1974 in Drammen, Norway, and was raised with his two brothers and two sisters. His sporting career began at the young age of twelve. His older brother Dag initiated his love for biathlon and together with their younger brother Hans Anton, they assembled "Team Bjørndalen," which for a long time remained the heart of the Norwegian National Team.

Ole participated in his first races at the Junior World Championships in 1992. His big breakthrough occurred the following year, however, when he won three out of four races in only his second participation with the juniors. In 1994/1995 and especially at the 1995 World Championship in Antholz, he drew a lot of attention by coming in fourth in the sprint and just narrowly missing a medal. His reign had begun. In the Total World Cup at the end of the season, he also finished fourth. Ole's first World Cup victory came in January 1996, in the race at Antholz.

At the Nagano Olympic Games in 1998, Ole won his first Olympic gold medal, in Sprinting, as well as a silver medal with the Norwegian Relay Team. Later that same year, he and his Norwegian teammates picked up a gold medal in Relay, and Ole also won a silver medal in the singles Pursuit race. He also won his first Total World Cup.

Year 2002 was one of his most successful years, with gold medals in the four disciplines (Single, Sprint, Pursuit, Relay) at the Salt Lake City Winter Olympics, and excellent success in a growing number of cross-country skiing events.

Ole Einar Bjørndalen stands as a solitary figure at the top of biathlon sport—something which has earned him the name "King Ole." The sportsman's success and charismatic style have done a lot to increase the popularity of biathlon sport. With more than 90 World Cup victories in biathlon, and an important win in cross-country skiing, Ole is a major public magnet.

Endurance and precision are defining characteristics of Bjørndalen's sporting career, and a perfect match for brand values at CERTINA. While the outstanding sportsman is hailed as a national hero in his native Norway, and is very well-known and loved in Russia, Germany and Poland, CERTINA is also very popular in Scandinavia, and has a strong distribution network in these latter countries. Ole Einar Bjørndalen's unpretentious, natural style is a perfect fit for the Swiss sport watchmaker, and CERTINA is looking forward to a long and fruitful partnership.
